Change of residence

Artikel

General information

Requirements

If you are deregistered in Germany, you can have your current Dutch place of residence entered in your passport and identity card.

If your current travel document still shows a German place of residence, we also need a deregistration certificate from your last German place of residence.

All documents are required in original or as certified copies. A scanned copy of a deregistration certificate is sufficient if it is sent directly to the Consulate General by the German registration authority.

For minors, it is sufficient if the change of residence is requested by one legal guardian. Minors who have reached the age of 16 can apply for the change of residence themselves on their identity card.

Appointments

Alternatively, you can send the application form for a change of residence, your passport or identity card, the original Dutch registration form (BRP), and the original deregistration certificate to the Consulate General. The change of residence will then be processed within a few business days, and you can then pick up your passport during our collection hours (Monday to Thursday between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.) or have an authorized representative pick it up for you. You bear the shipping risk.

Processing time and fees

There are no fees for changing your place of residence. If all requirements are met, the change of residence can usually be entered in your passport or identity card on the same day.

Registration and deregistration in the German residents' register

Since the Federal Registration Act does not apply abroad, registration/deregistration at foreign representations is not possible.

Required documents

The following are required for the application:

  • Valid German ID card
  • Extract from the residents' register of your Dutch place of residence (uittreksel Basisregistratie personen – BRP), no older than 6 months
  • If applicable, deregistration certificate from your last German place of residence

(Original documents must be submitted)

In individual cases, additional documents may be required.
